Ever visit a friend and their kitchen is always clean. How is that? It’s all about keeping on top of the little tasks. Here are a few shortcuts to tackle the mess from Good Housekeeping.

Clear the counter. Stash mail, papers and rarely used small appliances (like your juicer) in designated drawers or cupboards. Then toss unwanted food items that have been left sitting out. Also, put dishes in the dishwasher not the sink. Use a spray cleaner to wipe the surface.

Purge the fridge. Pull the trash can over and dump leftovers, spoiled food and old condiment bottles. Wipe shelves, bins and the front door and handle with a wet cloth or sponge. Add a fresh box of baking soda to absorb odors.

Spot-clean the stove. For spills and grease on handles, and any glass doors use a wet sponge and a dash of baking soda. For the burned-on food, spary with ammonia and rinse. Then sprinkle on some baking soda and add just a few drops of white vinegar. Let it bubble then whisk with a scrub sponge.

Finally, finish with a mop. Use a Swiffer with a disposable cloth or use a re-usable microfiber cloth to pick up any crumbs, dust and hair from the floor. Keep a damp towel in one hand to tackle stubborn spots as you go.
